Holographic metals and the fractionalized Fermi liquid
Subir Sachdev
TL;DR
The paper addresses the correspondence between holographic metals near charged AdS black holes and the fractionalized Fermi liquid phase of the lattice Anderson model. It compares their infrared electron correlations and thermodynamics through a Sachdev–Ye-like gapless spin liquid, finding that this state realizes AdS2×R2 physics at non-zero density.
Problem
The paper asks whether holographic metals and fractionalized Fermi liquids share the same infrared physics, including their unusual electron correlations and thermodynamics.

It compares the holographic AdS2×R2 description with the lattice Anderson model's fractionalized Fermi liquid, focusing on a Sachdev–Ye-like gapless spin liquid.

The fractionalized Fermi liquid reproduces the holographic metal's infrared electron correlations and finite zero-temperature entropy, supporting its identification with AdS2×R2 physics.

Certain mean-field gapless spin liquids provide non-zero-density matter realizing the near-horizon AdS2×R2 physics of Reissner–Nordström black holes.
Source: pp. 1, 3The correspondence is quantitatively limited because the entropy calculations use different large-N limits, and the Sachdev–Ye state may not remain stable in finite spatial dimensions.

We show that there is a close correspondence between the physical properties of holographic metals near charged black holes in anti-de Sitter (AdS) space, and the fractionalized Fermi liquid phase of the lattice Anderson model. The latter phase has a "small" Fermi surface of conduction electrons, along with a spin liquid of local moments. This correspondence implies that certain mean-field gapless spin liquids are states of matter at non-zero density realizing the near-horizon, AdS_2 x R^2 physics of Reissner-Nordstrom black holes.
